When Carol Look does meridian tapping, she often does both negative and positive rounds of tapping. With meridian tapping you take a target statement and measure how true it feels, rating it from 0 to 10. You tap and you check. The traditional negative round of tapping aims to bring down the anxiety, or whatever the feeling is, closer to 0. Carol usually does one or two rounds focused on the issue or problems, then a positive round to see if it brings anything else up.
Carol's experience with tapping has taught her that if you try to do a positive round of tapping too early it can bring about a swell of emotions. The practitioner may be overwhelmed by the emotions and may not believe they are true. The practitioner of the tapping must be ready to receive the suggestions that positive tapping can bring about. So you have to be ready. If you are still holding on to feelings of angst, worry, or fear you may not be ready to accept the positive suggestions.
Though Carol usually completes one round of negative tapping followed by a round of positive tapping, she sometimes combines the two. By doing this the brain that is focused on the negatives of "I can't" or "I'm not good enough" becomes confused by all of the "I can" statements. When the positive mixes with the negative the person begins to understand that there are options. They become excited about the possibilities. This technique is quite effective for practitioners who are already experienced with meridian tapping.
Energy therapy is meant to remove the blockages of energy that we have in our bodies as well as our minds. Any step to unblock your energy is a step in the right direction and you may realize some helpful information. For example, if you feel uncomfortable with saying "I am enough" you may have issues with inadequacy. This is a good realization because now you have something on which to focus your tapping - your feeling of inadequacy. Then you begin to explore why you feel inadequate. Continue delving deeper into your thoughts and feelings. When did you come to think of yourself as inadequate? Did something happen? Whatever you feel becomes a tapping target. Don't be afraid to ask who, what, and when while delving into your feelings. Investigate the time, place or person who led you to have those feelings. For instance, "When I was five, my mother's boyfriend always called me fat." This may be a source of your feelings of inadequacy. Tap on that so that you are sure to have a specific target that you are working on. You'll have better results with specificity rather than tapping on generalities.
When you have completed your tapping session, talk about the issue as if you are talking to your best friend about it. Speak from your heart and the true emotions will surface. Your language doesn't have to be perfect. By talking as if you are talking to your friend, you will speak from a deeper place with more feeling rather than from an intellectual one.
Having a specific target is key. Being clear about the feelings allows you to focus your target for tapping. Tell the truth about the issue and your feelings so that you can get to the root of it. Imagine you are talking to your friend and really get to the core of it all - the emotions, the guts of the issue. Be in a place of truth when you complete these techniques.
