Discover Your Limiting Beliefs and Let Them Go Forever

By Eric Johnson

Deep seated beliefs we have in our conscious and unconscious minds can control our successes and affect our happiness. Energy techniques such as Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) can aid us in allowing our limiting beliefs to be purged; however, in order to let them go we must first identify the beliefs that hold us back.

Get in touch with how you feel about different situations. At random times throughout the day, rate how you're feeling on a scale from 1 to 10, where 10 is super great and 1 is just awful. Focus on a particular part of your life, a relationship or business opportunity, for example, and gauge your level there, too. What's stopping you from being at a 10? "I could be a 10, totally great, if only I had _______." Fill in the blank with the thing that is limiting your happiness and you've identified a limiting belief.

Many people get a physical sensation when they experience their limiting beliefs. The feelings can provide an opportunity to clear the negative beliefs without knowing exactly what they are. Here's an analogy: If you are taking out the garbage you can rid your home of the trash without opening the bags and identifying exactly what is in each bag. Like this trash, sometimes we can rid ourselves of our limiting beliefs without knowing precisely what they are and where they came from.

Other times, garbage is tossed about and we must pick through it to get rid of it item by item. Every person is different and has different experiences; therefore, people's garbage is different and must be handled accordingly.

Beliefs about Money and Self

Lots of our limiting beliefs are centered around money and self. Have you heard the saying that "money is the root of all evil" or that "rich people are greedy"? These are two limiting beliefs that we hold that will keep us from experiencing an abundance of money. To see if this type of limiting belief affects you, simply ask yourself what would happen if you received a huge sum of money. If your first reaction to that question involves you having a problem of any sort then yes, you too have this common limiting belief about money.

This is similar to limiting beliefs we hold about ourselves. When you're up for a job promotion do you automatically discount your chances because you're not "good enough"? When someone expresses love toward you are you suspicious of their motives? Do you believe they must be faking it because how could anyone really love you? All these thoughts indicate that you are limiting yourself by feeling you don't deserve happiness. These limiting beliefs about money and self may have been held in your unconscious mind for a long time, controlling your thoughts and actions without you even being aware of them.

Clearing Limiting Beliefs

When people clear themselves of their limiting beliefs they are able to make the shifts needed to succeed, to stop the self-sabotage. How do you know if you have cleared limiting beliefs? You may notice shifts-- you feel better about your finances or yourself or whatever it is you are working on. You may experience things going better for you; maybe more money is coming in or you're more successful in other ways.

Once you start to become aware, you start to peel off your limiting beliefs like you're peeling the layers of an onion. Sometimes you may clear one issue at a time. But other times you many issues fall into place at once and you have a huge clearing.

As you discover your limiting beliefs and let them go, you move closer to having a wonderful life, a life lived at 10.
