Watching someone achieve their goal and come to victory is one of the most joyfullest moments a coach can have. However it is not always like this, I also see many of my clients run for the finish line only to fail miserably. What is the difference? Why is that some people seem to succeed without effort while others struggle? As a coach I have noticed a few common threads over the years and this is what I have discovered.
Many people I have noticed to fall short if they are not personally connected to the goal, meaning they don't really have a big enough reason why they really want what they are chasing. For example if you want to earn $250000 in one year, that is great, but what will this do to you personally? What will change if you reach this goal? You also need to be specific with numbers or amounts, simply saying I want to be rich, is not good enough, why do you want to be rich? why do you want to earn $250000? If you are not connected to your goal there is a big chance you will not reach it.
Your goals have to be your own goals, not someone else. If you don't "own" your goal, it is just too easy to bail out when the going gets tough. Take the person who decides to lose weight to please someone else. How often do you really think that works? On the other hand, what if you decide to lose 10 pounds because you will be healthier and feel great?
Dreaming big is a must in my book however you have to be careful not to have just a big leap that your goal may feel impossible or too hard, for example if you are starting at zero dollars and y9ouyr goal is to earn 1 million in the next month, this may be too big, not impossible but difficult. Have a vision of what you want and chunk it down to smaller steps, first focus on earning 1000 dollars a week, 10000 dollars a month for example.
To achieve your goals make sure to write them down and be specific, chunk them into smaller bites and reward yourself when you get to each bench mark and tell the world you are here to succeed. To your success.
